Kate’s Private Blog, for storing work and not for public yet
This blog will be about my work with young people and music in their communities, in the hope that it helps other musicians and teachers by sharing my experience, critical thought, research (eventually) and records of culture in the areas of Essex I work in.
My general stance and interest is in informal music making with young people, and this by nature is musicianship that isn’t measured. My musical training is in Western Classical music, but my interest is in grassroots, natural improvised and contemporary music. I love it all, and see my role as facilitating young people’s ambitions and interests. whatever they are. I believe in non hierarchical pedagogy and organisations, and see the model of the youth or community club as the healthiest learning and social environment that is organised by adults.
Our community music centres have a lot to learn from this places.
